Jhene Aiko

If you’re not hip to jhene and on this new age soul then its time you get on it . Jhene Aiko has been doing her thing from around the  2000’s with multiple features on several artists’ albums so she’s definately not a newby. After a brief break from the scene , she released  a mixtape named sailing soul then later her E.P ‘Sail out’ but not before getting rave reviews on being featured on Drakes album ‘Nothing was the same’. Now with her new album ‘Souled out’ being released in september of 2014 and getting attention worldwide, this is definately not an artiist to sleep on. Melodies that seem to capture her soul’s deepest intrinsic nature , to para phrases from tupac to fifty cent , her entire style can be considered different.  Her most recent video for the song ‘Eternal sunshine’ just dropped yesterday , You can watch and get souled out here .

“Mighty Crown Meets Suns of Dub”

Processed with VSCOcam with hb2 preset

As the dancehall and reggae scene is constantly changing in jamaica and all over the world , we have been hearing great dub mix tapes from sound systems such as yaadcore , major lazer and walshy fire and now  mighty crown brings one of the most anticipated mixtapes for this year . The collaboration between the far east rulaz and suns of dub boasts pre-released songs from suns of dub, mighty crown dub plates and remixs. This mix tape features artists such as chronixx , jesse royal , midnight ,prince ala and much much more. Mighty Crown co-founders Masta Simon and Sami couldn’t have been happier when Suns of Dub head honchos Addis Pablo and Ras Jammy approached them about doing a mix. “I couldn’t have thought of a more innovative group of people to create this mixtape with…there was a natural flow,” says Masta Simon, who describes the effort as “all about dubs, roots and reggae.” Mighty Crown’s management team Irish and Chin adds, “This is a really good look for Mighty Crown. This project inevitably allows Mighty Crown to further exhibit their passion for Reggae music and culture, while aligning their brand with a dynamic music industry collaborator, Suns of Dub.”

From “WOW  the story” till now , this guy has been in the forefront of dance hall music , Born and raised in Kingston Jamaica, young Damian Beckett survived his share of rough times along the way from Sherlock Crescent to Waterhouse. His love of music outweighed his talent for football and from his teenage years he devoted himself to developing his microphone skills. Working closely with the Mad People Gang, a.k.a. Madhouse Productions, Cham blazed a trail of hardcore classics like Many Many, Boom Tune, and Man & Man, which were collected on his impeccable 2000 debut album Wow: The Story. “That album opened a whole heap of doors”, Cham reflects. “But at the same time a lot of doors were closed on me”. “We had the biggest song in dancehall but at the time some industry heads were claiming that dancehall cant do this and dancehall cant do that.” Any such doubts were laid to rest in 2003 by Cham’s crossover hit Vitamin S, a boisterous bedroom boast bouncing to the beat of Madhouses irresistible Fiesta riddim. The tune jumped from Jamaican sound systems to worldwide radio and club play, mesmerizing the hip-hop massive and proving beyond question that the raw uncut sounds of Kingstons dancehalls could rock the world. Cham soon signed a deal with Atlantic Records, home to Jamaican hitmaker Sean Paul and Yankee rap stars like Lil Kim and Fat Joe. But his story was just beginning. Six years after “Wow The Story ” the world’s musical landscape had changed. Drawing inspiration from daily life in their troubled homeland, Cham and The Stranger created a dancehall masterpiece called Ghetto Story which hit the streets like a bomb at the end of 2005, Jamaicas bloodiest year on record with over 1,600 slain. Blending the vivid street narrative with trenchant political analysis and Chams emotional delivery, Ghetto Story became an instant classic, summing up all the pain and loss. “You cant say we were inciting violence”, says Cham. “Its just a memory. If I grew up any different I would have a nicer memory.” Every street dance, country bus, and radio seemed to be blasting Madhouse’s nasty new digital throwback riddim, the 85, and the number-one tune for that year and the next was Cham’s survival story. Now 2015 cham is dropping his long anticipated 3rd album. The first single “i’m too hot” has one of the sickest bass line flowing neatly in sinc with cham’s unique stlye of melodies enticing both male and female listeners at the same time. The track blazes that battle cry “wow wow” at the start that takes the day one listeners automatically back to previous hits and this is surely one to be on that hit list. A juggernaut in the dancehall arena Mr.WOW or WOW is back with I’m Too Hot.

Tanya Carter

From 2005 as Best Female Vocalist at Belize’s Entertainment Awards hosted by Global Promotions to now having songs produced in Jamaica ,Tanya Carter has certainly paid her dues. We have have seen Tanya blossom and grow through the stages of her career just as a butterfly from egg to adult . She has arrived ; and with a series of hits under her belt combining hard core lyrics laced with a nonchalant demeanor , she definately is here to stay. As years ago she mentioned “My eyes are on the throne” ; she is definately headed for it with her pretty lil shottas to back her up. In her most recent performance at the Damian Marley concert  , she proved to the masses that she’s much more than just a pretty face with a well scripted performance featuring her DJ Mistah Gee the Mad Arab and her back up dancers . It was short and sweet and got rave reviews from the audience. Belize has so much talent and Tanya Carter is definately one in the forefront pushing up her Belizean Flag for the world to see.
